To delete files and bypass the Recycle Bin, select a file and
press Shift + Delete.

To quickly lock your workstation, press the Windows logo key +
L.

You can quickly rename multiple files by selecting the files in
a window, right-click on one of the files and rename it. All
the other files selected will be renamed to the same name but
with individual numbers in brackets. Great for renaming all
those downloaded digital photos!

In a Windows folder, you can arrange icons in alphabetical
groups by choosing View from the menu, then choosing Arrange
Icon By…, Show In Groups.

To view the desktop at any time, press the Windows Logo Key + D.
(Press the Logo Key + D a second time to return to the
application you were working in.)

Press Alt + Tab to scroll through open applications.

The Start menu contains a list of recently used application.
Right-click an application name and choose ‘Pin to Start Menu’.
They application will now be listed in the Start menu
permanently. (Right-click the application name and choose
‘Unpin from Start Menu’ to remove the application name from the
list.)

To use an on-screen keyboard, click the Start button and select
Run. Type ‘osk’ (without the quotes) in the Run text box and
click OK.

To rename a selected file or item, press F2.

To run the pre-installed Netmeeting on Windows XP, click the
Start button, and choose Run. Type ‘conf’ in the text box
(without the quotes) and click OK.

To display a toolbar on the Taskbar for quickly running
programs, right-click the Taskbar, choose Toolbars, then choose
Quick Launch.

To clean-up your desktop, right-click the desktop, choose
Arrange Icons By, then choose Run Desktop Cleanup Wizard.

To open the Windows Search dialog box, press F3.

To create a shortcut for a selected item, press Ctrl + Shift
while dragging an item.

Press the Shift key when you insert a CD into the CE-ROM drive
to prevent the CD from automatically playing.
